AFRICAN GIRL

She is an African girl
With hair so glitter as gold
Her ebony skin and ravishing bones
Smooth like the Umasru sweet potatoes

She is an African girl
The lens on her two dose eyes
Whirling, blinking and rounding
Like a lonely star amidst constellation
The big calabash at her backyard door
Inviting like the aura of Adoa beanscake

She is an African girl
The river "witch" has showed again
To swim men down the river bank
Tell her
My fins are ready to swim

Tell Amaka,her mother
It time for exchange of numerous yams and palm wine
For the longing forest tree
Ready to fall on the high way road
The two kolanut balls on the Apara tree
Ready to crack on elders teeth
The virgin soil of arewa land
Ready for Bush fallowing

She is an African girl
The zit so tiny on her oily face
Like the incarnate of my mother's tribal mark
The open space in her snowy teeth
Like the sliver linning amidst the sky
Her walking steps
Like the regular beats of a rapping mortal

Let this adorable hut
Be the habitant of our two burning souls
For the death so pleased to have
Is to die with an African girl.

O'SHEGE
